Chapter History - Joliet, Illinois

The Joliet Chapter of the National Hook-Up of Black Women, Inc, was founded in 1991 under the direction of Dorothy J. Campbell.  The charter members are Mrs. Gretta Whitted (first President), Dr, Mattie Barnes, Mrs. Helen McKenzie, Mrs. Deborah Summers, Ms. Robin Whitted, Mrs. Nancina Grays, Mrs. Sandra Betts, Mrs. Ora Jones, Mrs. Ruby Williams, and Mrs. Gwen Barlow.  These concerned women saw a need for an active and collective voice on women's issues in the Joliet community.  NHBW Joliet Chapter carries out the national mission locally by creating an atmosphere which enables women to effect meaningful changes.  NHBW works to improve the quality of life, facilitate family preservation, achieve self-empowerment, and promote economic development.
