Chapter History - Chicago, Illinois

Chicago Chapter was founded four years following the creation of the national organization in the spring of 1978, under the direction of our National Founder, Dr. Arnita Boswell, a prominent activist and educator, and Dr. Wynetta Frazier, a leading clinical psychologist. Both of these individuals recognized that meeting once a year in Washington during the Congressional Black Caucus would not suffice to meet the needs of women and their children.  Today, the Chicago Chapter is about the business of promoting literacy, increasing breast cancer and mental health awareness, eradicating domestic violence, feeding/clothing the needy, supporting women shelters, expanding post-secondary opportunities by funding scholarships, mentoring, and providing community outreach.
